A genre is a way of categorising a text through style and form. A text is classified in a genre through the identification of key elements which occur in that text and in others of the same genre. Genre is important for both readers and creators of texts. I think it helps both the entities to make certain decisions such as what they want to see and what they want to make and supply. Certain type of people are attracted to certain products based on the repetitive conventions in them. When these products are divided into genres at selling points it will be easier for the readers to find their interests among all the media products. The audiences will have an idea about the media products if they are divided in a genre and they will know what to expect from it.The people who watch a specific genre identify the repeated elements used and shape their own identity in that way e.g they may start dressing in a way related to that genre. On the other hand the producers can market their products according to the genre and they can also standardize production practices according to genre conventions.
