This is Coldplay's official website. This is one of the most colorful and one of the most interactive websites that I have come across. The band's name is on the top left corner of the webpage, not covering the entire masthead but rather a very small portion. Below it are tabs that lead to other pages such as "Tour", "News", "Videos" etc. Almost all the animated images on the homepage link to their latest songs. I found this idea very interesting. The background of the home page is grayish but the font and colors used are bright and vibrant showing liveliness and giving a fun feel. The pictures on the home page are linked to their recent performances and the garments that are available at stores. This is a good way of advertising the band. Also, in the footer of the page are links to the band's fanpages etc on social networking sites such as Facebook, Twitter etc.
Coldplay's "x&y" The cover of the album is very unusual. It doesn't have any picture or name of the band. It's a very abstract image made of different colour and blocks which represent the Baudot code. As the band is an alternative rock and usually makes songs with influences of Electronic music, the cover supports its feel. The back of the album again has no picture of the band. This shows that the main purpose is not to advertise the faces of the band but rather the album and the music within. The back of the album case has the list of song in the CD with a matte blue background. It also has the bar code at the bottom right corner and other information like the production company etc at the bottom. The CD
Adele's "25" The fron of the album cover has a close-up of Adele's face. There is not text on the cover, not even the name of the album. The picture is in B&W. Adele is looking directly into the camera making it seem like she is looking right at us. this helps make a connection. The back of the album case has the picture of the artist again on the right side. Adele is looking right into the camera in this picture as well having an impact on the buyers. The left side has a list of all the names of the songs of the album. It also has a bar code at the bottom left corner and other information below it in a very small font. The CD is plain white with a black outline. It has the name of the album in red colour and a thin font. This is the only time the name of the album is mentioned on the digipak. The CD is very minimalist so the focus goes to the name of the album.
Panic at the disco's "Too weird to live, Too rare to die." The front cover has the image of the main artist smoking a cigarette. The entire front cover is in B&W except for the smoke that is coming out of the cigarette. The name of the band is written on the top left corner of the cover. Above the band's name, is the album's name in a comparatively smaller font. This shows that the front cover of the album is mainly advertizing the face of the artist and the name of the band. The background is a rural setting. The back of the album case has the picture of the artist sitting in the car. It doesn't show the entire face of the artist but rather the side pose. The setting, again, is rural. On the top left corner is a box in which all the tracks' names are written. It also has a bar code and the production company's name. The CD has the name of the band and the album. It doesnt have the artist's picture but rather just a landscape of a place in B&W.
